[4] Full-Text Reports to a LEXIS-NEXIS Printer ------------------------------------------ CheckCite 4.2 includes the ability to send full text reports to a LEXIS-NEXIS printer. This popular feature was brought forward from the CasePull software. [5] Ability to handle "smart quotes" in Microsoft Word 6.0 for Windows. CheckCite 4.2 includes the ability read "smart quotes" in Microsoft Word 6.0 for Windows files. III. PROGRAM NOTES ============= [1] Required Software ----------------- CheckCite 4.20 for Windows is configured to use the LEXIS(R)-NEXIS(R) Research Software for Windows, Version 2.8/4.0 (referred to in the remainder of this note as the Research Software) for on-line data access. [2] Communications Configuration ---------------------------- Since CheckCite 4.20 for Windows uses the Research Software for on-line data access, you must use the Research Software to configure your communications setup. [3] Upgrading from 3.X - Option Sets -------------------------------- Old 3.x GLOBAL option sets, stored in CHECKCIT.STD, can be converted to 4.x option sets, stored in CHECKCIT.INI, by following these steps. A] When installing 4.x on top of 3.x: 1] Save the CHECKCIT.STD from the 3.x program directory to a safe location. 2] Install 4.x on top of the old 3.x version. 3] Delete CHECKCIT.INI from the program directory before running the program, and copy the saved CHECKCIT.STD to the program directory. 4] Administrator runs CheckCite - the program will automatically convert option sets and create CHECKCIT.INI. There will be a minor, one-time only delay as the conversion takes place. B] When installing 4.x to a new location: 1] Install 4.x to new location. 2] Copy CHECKCIT.STD from the old 3.x directory to the new 4.x location. 3] Delete CHECKCIT.INI from 4.x directory. 4] Administrator runs CheckCite - option sets converted. C] Personal option sets Old 3.x PERSONAL option sets can be converted. For each user, the steps are as follows: 1] Copy the users CHEKDEF.XXX file to a safe location. See the network setup documentation to determine the extension (.XXX = SYS or user id) and location for each users file. 2] After installing and running network setup, but before that particular user runs the program, copy the CHEKDEF.XXX file to the original location. 3] Run CheckCite - the program will convert the option sets to 4.x format in the file CHECKOPT.XXX. [4] Client Validation ----------------- If you would like to run a custom client matter validation program, select the option from the Research Software User Preferences Setup dialog box and provide the client program name in the appropriate entry area. [5] Upgrader Not Included --------------------- Electronic UPGRADER is not included in this bundled release. [6] Document Conversion ------------------- If you are going to convert a document's format prior to running CheckCite 4.20 for Windows, remember to actually save the document before attempting to run CheckCite on that document in the new word processor format. [7] Document Modification --------------------- If you modify a document prior to running CheckCite 4.20 for Windows, remember to actually save the document before attempting to run CheckCite on that document in the new word processor format. [8] Launching the LEXIS(R)-NEXIS(R) Research Software for Windows ------------------------------------------------------------- By default, CheckCite 4.20 now automatically launches the LEXIS(R)-NEXIS(R) Research Software for Windows when CheckCite is started. This helps to avoid insufficient memory conditions. In versions 4.10 and 4.11, the -l command line parameter was used for this purpose. The function of that parameter has now been reversed. When the -l parameter is used on the CheckCite command line now , the LEXIS(R)-NEXIS(R) Research Software Windows will not be automatically launched. [9] CheckCite Report May Not Confirm Aff'd "In" Cites ------------------------------------------------- When AutoCiting a case whose name begins with the preposition "in", CheckCite may not confirm that the case has been affirmed although the AutoCite report might clearly indicate that it was. For example, when AutoCiting "In re Medomak Canning, 111 B.R. 371, 372 (D. Me. 1990), aff'd 922 F.2d 895 (1st Cir. 1990)", the CheckCite report will incorrectly state that the F.2d is not indicated as aff'd, although it is clearly listed under Auto-Cite Reference and Subsequent Appellate History. [10] Accepts the client code from the command line --------------------------------------------- [11] Chooses between Validation Programs ----------------------------------- CheckCite 4.2 now correctly allows a choice between the LEXIS-NEXIS Research Software for Windows' client validation program and the client validation within CheckCite. [12] Interprets ADMIN.INI environmental variables -------------------------------------------- CheckCite 4.2 now interprets environmental variables in paths within the LEXIS-NEXIS Research Software for Windows ADMIN.INI file. [13] Defaults to Start the LEXIS-NEXIS Research Software --------------------------------------------------- The CheckCite 4.2 software now defaults to starting the LEXIS-NEXIS Research Software for Windows. Therefore, the -l command line switch's purpose is now reversed: use the -l switch if you DO NOT want the LEXIS-NEXIS Research Software for Windows to automatically load. [14] Avoids Automatic Sign-on ------------------------ CheckCite 4.2 now avoids automatic sign-on to LEXIS-NEXIS by the LEXIS-NEXIS Research Software 4.0 for Windows when the CheckCite software is first started.
